Acupuncture has a very long history in the treatment of colds and flus.

Symptoms are categorized into groups called patterns. The most common patterns of common cold and flu are Wind-Heat and Wind-Cold.
Symptoms of Wind-Heat include dry or sore throat, fever, and nasal congestion with thick yellow mucus.

Wind-Cold symptoms include strong aversion to cold, stuffy or runny nose with white phlegm, and an achy body.

Chinese acupuncture techniques include points to release Wind in the body to push out these pathogens, and modalities like gua sha and cupping to stimulate the defensive Qi, relating to immune function.
